I want to wear my shorts and sandals.
It's snowing like crazy out there right now. We closed the store early because of the storm. The grocery store was insane most of the day with people buying milk, bread, and toilet paper. You know, we might not get out for, say 14 hours, maybe, if most of the plows broke down. It never ceases to amaze me how people react when the forecast predicts snow. When was the last time you couldn't get out of your house for 24 hours following a snow storm, not ice storm, but snow storm? Exactly! The next day, the roads are clear, the sun usually shines, and the trees are beautiful. But I digress. Where does all the milk, bread and toilet paper go that you bought two days before they were predicting a snow storm? I guess it goes to the same place that the extension cords that you use at Christmas go, or the fans you use in the summer? And maybe even the same place that the socks in the wash go, so that you don't have a matched set.
It's snowing hard, we might get 8-18 inches. So if you take that, divide by two and add 1, that gives you a better prediction for accumulation. So with the new 5-10 inches, I definitely have to go to work tomorrow.
I want to wear my shorts and sandals.

Once again, the grandkids

I finished the purple hat and scarf for Lexy. I think she likes it?? They were over on Sunday, but she really wasn't feeling the best. You'd never know by the smile.

Here she is with the hat and scarf, and the slippers that I made a while ago. They all have a pair of slippers that they wear while visiting Mammie and Papa.
Brooklynn always has a "cheese" for the camera.
And Papa enjoys a moment with all three. It doesn't last long, so I have to snap fast!

Papa is pretending to be the new snowmobile they have.

One thumb is the gas and the other is the brake. Brooklynn just enjoyed hanging on. But Dawson really knew what was happening.

Sunday Jan, 25, 2009

Well, only eleven months and it's Christmas! I can't say that I am ready, but given 10 more months, I probably will have a pretty good handle on it. I'd like to think that I could have it all ready in about 8 months, but I don't want to set my goals too high. Just sets me up for failure, and there is already way too much kicking you in the head, so lets not add to that.

The grandchildren were here today for a few hours, and as usual, we had fun. Brooklynn has learned to use the mouse and is able to move the cursor and click on the "music" button on the program we have for them. So, she clicks and clicks and plays the music over and over and over. Of course, she sings along, so it isn't all that bad. This was a huge step for her, and us, since now we don't have to be right by her side all the time. Growing. They do it right behind your back.

Dawson, of course, wanted to open and close the garage door, but with the temperature hovering around zero most of the day, we didn't want the door to the house open and closing, so we had to tell him no. He found other things to entertain himself, but he really wanted to open that door. He was watching for his father to return so he could ride his "new" snowmobile. It's a little Kitty Kat, just the right size for him. His father made a path for them to go on, since it won't go in the fluffy snow. Dawson rides around and around and around. What a hoot to watch him. He's only four, but he's loving every loop!

Lexy was not feeling all that great today. She complained about her ear hurting, and wanted some cotton for it. That didn't help much, but making a bed on the couch, a good movie, and some juice and popcorn did seem to make it all a bit better for a while. She stayed here longer than the other 2, and I took her home later. She was not feeling any better, and now her shoes suddenly became too small for her feet. She couldn't wear them home. (They were way too small when she got here.) Any way, fun day, lots of chatter and noise, and lots of toys on the floor, but as always, a wonderful visit.

Ken and I purchased a Wii this weekend, with Gavin's help. We have been bowling quite a bit, and Ken is even golfing and chasing cows. What a riot! Can't wait for the Thursday buddies to have a try at bowling. We don't even have to go the the lanes, rent used shoes, and handle balls that half of Newport has used. I think it's going to prove to be a great purchase.

It's been cold again, near or below zero several nights. I really love summer, and my shorts and sandals, and especially the pool. I hope I can wear my shorts and sandals soon. I hope I can not see my breath when I go outside, soon. I hope I can dig out the bathing suits and towels soon. Soon is a very relative word. Soon is not 11 months away, but hopefully only 4 months away. I can really set my sights on 4 months! It's going to be a long winter, isn't it?

Dawson's Birthday

Dawson turned 4 this month, and we celebrated with supper, cake and ice cream. He had on his usual big smile when we lit the candles and started singing. (Notice the color of the frosting.)

Do I need to say anything?
Dawson got a train set that they all enjoyed constructing.

Uncle Gavin was home to help, too.

I made Brooklynn a new hat over the weekend. I think she likes it. Lexy asked for one, too, but of course, it needs to be purple!

December Birthdays

We finally celebrated our December birthdays, with a warm, filling dinner, light dessert, and gifts and ditties. Dan got a book to make Ben and Jerry's ice cream (mmm, we can't wait for him to try one of those recipes.)

Alice got some new crocs. (I know you can't see her face, but these really are Alice's feet.) Hopefully she's enjoy them as much as the rest of us do.

Here are the honorees. What a fun evening with friends, food, and more memories made.
