A Trip on the Katahdin
On Wednesday, July 30th, we had the pleasure of a trip on Moosehead Lake aboard the Katahdin. What a trip! The weather was perfect- not too hot, but sunny and perfect.
The captain of the boat was full of local information and lore, and shared many great stories with all of us.
You can just see Mt. Katahdin in the distance. We were fortunate that the weather and air were clear and the mountain was visible. The photo doesn't do the beauty of the scenery justice.
As we came around Mt. Kineo, on the Rockwood side, you can see the image of the Indian Chief in the face of the cliffs. Awesome scenery right under our noses. I've lived here all my life, and this was my first sight of Mt. Kineo. What a festive place it was in it's day. It would be fun to see what it might have evolved into today if it hadn't burned.
This doesn't even come close to showing what the sheer cliff of Mt. Kineo really looks like. We were within 20 feet of the cliff, and the water is near 100 feet deep! Awesome! We even sighted some peregrine falcons. It was a remarkable day, spent on the water, seeing the beauty around us, with some of my favorite people. It was a great way to spend the day!
